AMERICAN RED CROSS LIFEGUARD MANAGMENT IN-PERSON EXAM ONLY (LGM Exam)
Online Component Required?
Yes, participants must complete the Lifeguard Management (LGM) Online Course the before attending. The online LGM course is accessible via the American Red Cross website for and takes approximately 3 hours to complete.
Purpose/Objective:
This exam-only session does not include the online training. That portion must be purchased and completed separately prior to attendance. The American Red Cross Lifeguard Management Exam is a written, in-person examination for individuals supervising lifeguards in the states of New York and New Jersey (Both New York and New Jersey require in-person testing and do not recognize the online exam in the American Red Cross Lifeguard Management online course). This evaluation serves to ensure that participants demonstrate the knowledge and decision-making skills required to manage lifeguards and aquatic safety operations in a variety of facility types.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Age Requirement: Must be a minimum of 15 years old
- Certification Requirement: Must show proof of successful completion of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Management online course
- It is recommended that particpants review their American Red Cross Lifeguard Management Supplement (eBook), which is included in the online course, prior to sitting for the exam.

Exam Score: Must pass the in-person written exam with a score of 80% or more.
Certification Earned and Validity Period:
For those supervising lifeguards in the states of New York and New Jersey, your online American Red Cross Lifeguard Management certification is ONLY VALID when accompanied by a record of successful completion of the American Red Cross Lifeguard Management In-Person Exam. Upon successful completion of this exam, you will receive an American Red Cross Lifeguard Management In-Person Exam certificate. Your LGM online course certificate and your LGM In-Person Exam certificate each have a validity period of 2 years from the date of completion.
American Red Cross First Aid: Responding to Emergencies bridge course combined with CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers challenge course (RTE bridge - Sat 6/27 10:30AM - 7:30PM)

Self-Study Component Required?
Yes. Details will be provided upon registration.
The assigned self-study must be completed prior to the instructor-led session.
Purpose/Overview:
The purpose of the American Red Cross First Aid: Responding to Emergencies bridge course combined with the CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers Challenge course is to train professional-level rescuers to respond to breathing and cardiac and first aid emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. Both individual and multi-rescuer responses are practiced. The instructor-led classroom challenge and assessment session takes approximately 8 hours to complete.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must have the maturity and physical strength to perform the skills.
- Must show proof of current (or no more than 30 days expired) American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification or equivalent, such as Basic Life Support/BLS.
Requirements for Certification:
- Must complete the self-study packet
- Must participate in all course activities
- Must demonstrate competency in all rescue skills
- Must pass the written course exams with a score of 80% or higher
Certification Earned and Validity Period:
- Successful participants will earn American Red Cross First Aid: Responding to Emergencies/CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers certification with a validity period of 2 years from the date of completion.
- Please note that most departments of health will only recognize the first year of your CPR certification and require CPR recertification every year.
